Why Do We Exist?

The Greenlight Team exists to address the growing issue of homelessness in our community. The following key information sheds light on the urgent need for our services:

Homelessness Overview

Currently, there are 144,670 individuals experiencing homelessness, which is 2.9% higher than the pre-COVID level. The main causes of homelessness include situations where family and friends can no longer accommodate individuals, domestic abuse cases, eviction, violence, harassment, and leaving asylum support.

Support Needs and Health Impact

40% of homeless individuals require multiple supports. Homelessness amongst older individuals has increased by 36.3%, often with higher health needs. Lack of a fixed address hinders access to care, such as community mental health support. Health issues can include skin disorders, trauma risk (assault/rape), malnutrition, parasitic infections, dental diseases, joint problems, liver disease, and diabetes control challenges.

Additional Findings

In addition, 47% of individuals experiencing homelessness suffer from physical health issues, while 78% face mental health difficulties. The Greenlight Team provides vital support, assistance, and resources to address homelessness challenges, ensuring physical and mental well-being of homeless individuals.

Greenlight is a team of dedicated volunteers with a passion for caring for the homeless. With the help of a medical van, we provide non-intrusive medical care and a signposting service to help individuals gain access to appropriate assistance.

Together with our Street Friends and Befriending projects, we also aim to build long-term and meaningful relationships to support our service-users through a difficult time.

Get Involved

Below are three ways you can get involved to help homeless people regain their trust in humanity, become contributing parts of society, and see their lives grow as part of a healthy community.

Regardless of your skill set, there’s a place for everyone to make a difference.

1. Greenlight Teams

Greenlight Teams consist of passionate volunteers dedicated to assisting the homeless. Our teams actively participate in medical and food services, as well as provide support and contribute to operational roles.

2. Street Friends

Street Friends is a community of individuals who are eager to make a difference in the lives of the homeless but require some additional assistance to do so, whether it’s resources, guidance, or a supportive network that empowers you to assist the homeless in their day-to-day lives.

3. Befriending

Our amazing team of Befrienders are compassionate members of our church community who offer a more bespoke level of companionship to homeless individuals who have specifically expressed the need for a supportive friend.
